Apple is reportedly asking suppliers to move their production of Airpods and Beats headphones to India, according to reports. It has come amid Apple ramping up its iPhone manufacturing in India.
On Tuesday, the reports suggest that Apple has crossed iPhone exports from India $ 1 billion in the five months since April, signalling that the South Asian nation is making progress with its bid to become a force in electronic manufacturing.
The report says that the iPhone assembler Foxconn is preparing to manufacture Beats headphones in the country and hopes to produce AirPods as well. This move will be a big win for India as it attempts to rise in the global supply chain.
Luxshare Precision Industry and its affiliates, which produce AirPods in Vietnam and China, are planning to manufacture wireless earphones in India. However, Luxshare is more focused on its Vietnamese AirPods operation and can lag behind its competitors in starting production of Apple products in India, as per the reports.

Apple started iPhone production in India in 2017 but accelerated the production last year. The company’s new iPhone 14 series is also being manufactured in India for local and global markets.
India’s share in the global handset production market is growing continuously. According to Counterpoint Research, it reached 16% in 2021 from 9% in 2016. The market has planned to spend $30 billion to strengthen its electronic supply chain further, from semiconductors, and materials to displays and electronics
Joey Yen, a tech analyst, said ━ India would emerge as a key alternative for electronics production outside China.
As per the production of the iPhone in India and evolving smartphone market, India is expecting to compete with other big international electronics makers.
