Truecaller, a leading global communication platform and creator of the spam detection app, has finally introduced live caller ID for iPhones. It came after Apple, Inc. gave developers access to a Live Caller ID framework in the latest iOS 18.2, showing an open approach toward third-party app integration. This framework is developed for Truecaller-like apps and offers encrypted access to details on an incoming call for call identification.
Apple and Truecaller shared that the caller identification lookup will be homomorphic encryption-based, which converts information into ciphertext that can be analysed without decrypting.
The tech giant Apple explained that an on-device app authenticates the callers’ device with a temporary ID; then, the system runs several protocols with the information server for that user’s identity.
To enable Truecaller on iOS 18.2, users will need to enter their iPhone settings; then, in the apps section, they can enable the switches under “Call Blocking and Identification.” Next, users will return to Truecaller and use the features. Currently, new features are limited to Truecaller Premium subscribers, while free users can only see Caller IDs of verified businesses.
