Google, the world’s number 1 search engine platform is rolling out new security features for Android devices. These features will be available on smartphones operating Android 10 or above. The company discussed the new security features at its annual conference, Google I/O, which took place in May this year.
One of the best security features is the Theft Detection Lock, which locks the phone automatically when snatched. The Offline Device Lock is also there, which turns on if the thief tries to disable an internet connection to avoid location tracking. Additionally, a Remote Lock feature will allow users to lock their phones remotely with only their contact number.
An Android expert, Mishaal Rehman, claimed that Google started testing the Theft detection feature in Brazil in June. Currently, theft detection features are becoming available across the U.S. All three theft detection capabilities appear for users enrolled in the Google Play services beta (version 24.40.33).

The Theft Detection Lock uses device sensors, Wi-Fi, and smart device connections to determine if the phone is stolen. When detected, this feature instantly locks the screen to protect personal data. The Offline Device Lock will lock the smartphone if it’s stolen and being used while the internet connection is off. Users can remotely lock their stolen handset from android.com using their phone number.
People can find these features in their phone’s Android Settings. They just need to search for “Theft Protection” and turn on the features in their settings. Another method to enable these features would be navigating to the new Google service page > All service tab > Personal & device safety option.
