BSNL is set to change the game of how we connect by introducing the “Direct to Device” service. The report from the India Mobile Congress suggested that it will allow users to send messages without needing a SIM card through satellite-powered communication. The innovation behind this advanced technology was developed in collaboration with the satellite company Viasat, according to a report from the India Mobile Congress. It is expected that the technology has the potential to provide connectivity even in remote and underserved areas during emergencies when traditional networks might fail.
At the India Mobile Congress, BSNL highlighted with a typical Android phone that the transmission of messages to a satellite will be at an altitude of about 36,000 kilometres above Earth. In contrast to conventional messaging, direct-to-device (D2D) technology utilises existing cellular networks to establish direct connections with satellites. BSNL is also launching Any Time SIM (ATS), allowing customers to obtain new BSNL SIM cards 24/7 through automated kiosks. Additionally, the company has introduced a one-time solution network for disaster management and a secure 5G network specifically designed for the mining sector.
