Smartphones’ foldable technologies have revolutionised their look and function, and they have gained considerable popularity in recent years. The Shenzhen-based Chinese mobile manufacturer Tecno is taking a big leap in the segment of foldable smartphones with its new Phantom Ultimate 2.
The Phantom Ultimate 2 boasts a 6.48-inch screen, which can be unfolded to get a 10-inch LTPO OLED screen with a 4:3 ratio. This smartphone is 11mm thick when folded and features a dual-hinge mechanism. According to Techno, the mechanism has been tested 3,00,000 folds. The Tecno Phantom Ultimate 2 comes with a 0.25-mm thick battery, the thinnest battery in smartphones to date.
The revolutionary smartphone Phantom Ultimate 2 supports dynamic wallpapers and adaptive icons that change depending on whether the screen is folded or unfolded. The UI adapts to different scenarios, such as large-screen viewing and tent mode, to provide a versatile experience to users.
According to Tecno, Phantom Ultimate 2 is the world’s first phone with TDDI (Touch/Display Integration) technology, which allows the display driver and touch sensor to be placed in a single chip. The company also shared a video revealing that this phone can be used like a laptop. The button half of the display folds to become a keyboard, and the other part becomes a screen.
The company told CNET, “Techno is actively exploring the commercialisation of the tri-fold smartphone.” It added, “With further refinement, the concept phone is expected to be available for hands-on experience early next year.”
The worldwide smartphone market, dominated by names like OnePlus, Google, Apple, Samsung, etc., is expected to reach 25 million by the end of 2024. IDC said the worldwide shipment might grow to 45.7 million by 2028. So, it’s clear that foldable phones will grow even more popular in upcoming years. Seeing how Phantom Ultimate 2 revolutionises the landscape will be exciting in this situation.
