Qualcomm has finally unveiled its new chipset on Monday, the Snapdragon 888 Plus. It was expected to release mid-year, and now the company has unveiled the new chipset with its features. The new chipset brings improved CPU and AI performance while still delivering 5G support. More excitingly, five major smartphone companies have committed to using this new chipset.

  • Integrated Snapdragon X60 5G modem, up to 7.5 Gbps downlink

Like previous versions, the 888 plus essentially uses the same 5nm hardware but it has to upclock the CPU and AI cores to enhance performance.  

The Kryo on the Snapdragon 888 plus system gets a boost; it increases the speed of the prime core to 3GHz. Meanwhile, the AI engine will offer 20% improvement as it now delivers 32 TOPS (Trillions of Operations per Second), as it was 26 TOPS 6 months ago. 

Other specs like Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, Qualcomm Quick Charge 5, Adreno 660 GPU, and camera capabilities will remain the same. 

When Will the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 Plus Available for Users?  

According to the reports, the first handset is expected to come in Q3 in 2021 in the months of July, August, and September. Users can expect to use it soon. 

Which Phones Will Feature Snapdragon 888 Plus?

Only a few handsets have been announced to release with the Snapdragon 888 plus. Five major brands that are committing to using the new chipset are Honor, Asus, Xiaomi, Vivo, and Motorola

  • Asus Promise to appear with the updated chipset in the ROG phone
  • Honor unveiled the next flagship name of the phone is Honor Magic 3.
  • The rest of the companies are yet to announce the device name. 

Overall, the speed of the phone will increase. Qualcomm says that its upcoming Snapdragon X65 modem is now 10Gbps in over-the-air testing. The phones that will support Snapdragon 888 Plus would be known as high-end flagships and particular gaming phones as the new chipset will enhance the performance of the phones. 

So the users who are planning to buy a new phone should wait for a few months more as the new chipset is going to be released soon. If you want to use a handset with improved performance, go with ASUS, Honor, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Motorola.
