PM Modi’s Plan: Indian Chip In Every Device Globally

SEMICON India 2024 started yesterday in Greater Kailash with the theme ‘Shaping the Semiconductor Future’. It’s a three-day conference that will last until 13 September. PM Modi inaugurated the conference and said he dreams of Indian chips powering every device worldwide. 

While addressing the SEMICON India 2024, PM Modi said, “This is the right time to be in India. India offers an integrated ecosystem for the semiconductor sector, provides stable policies, and ease of doing business.” He further added, “Investment of over Rs1.5 lakh crore committed in semiconductor manufacturing, many projects in the pipeline. Our dream is to have an Indian-made chip in every device in the world.” 

PM Modi talked about the electronic sector and said India aims for a $500 billion size for it by the end of this decade, up from its current size of $150 billion. He added that the country’s supply chain resilience is critical and gave the example of global disruption during the COVID-19 pandemic. On 10 September, PM Modi chaired a meeting of Semiconductor Executives at his house.

Mr Narendra Modi also informed that India is the eighth country globally to organise an event on the global semiconductor sector. He emphasised the need to prepare Indian students and professionals for the semiconductor industry. The SEMICON India 2024 is being attended by 17 business leads from 17 nations across the world.
